E is for echo that through the woods rang,
F is for foreman that leadeth our gang.
G is for grindstone that merely whirls 'round,
H is the handle so smooth and so round.
I is for iron, that marketh our pine,
J is for jovial, we keep all the time,
K is for keen edge, our axes do keep,
L is for lice, boys, upon our shirts creep.
M is for moss, that corketh our camps,
N is for needle, that mendeth our pants,
O is for owl, that hooteth by night,
P is for pineboards, we ofttimes lay straight.
Q is for quarreling, we ne'er do allow,
R is for river that through our logs plow,
5 is for big sleds, so stout and so strong, T for the big team, that draws them along.
U is for using, we put ourselves through,
V is for valley, we cut our way through,
W is for woods, we leave in the spring,
6 so I have sung all I 'm going to sing.
There are three more letters, I can't put in rhyme, And if it don't suit you, please tell me in time, For the trains they are moving, their whistles do
blow, So farewell, my Darling, to the woods I must go. |
